The students have been exposed to subtraction so it will be an extension/enrichment lesson.
We will learn a saying to help us when we see double digit subtraction problems. I plan on introducing the saying in the first slide and explaining it to the students. I will then have a few examples with visual manipulatives. The students will be able to ask questions on the voice thread and I will answer them. If the students are understanding this then we will move to independent work. I will have subtraction questions and have the students answer them. Making sure that they are using the helpful jingle.
My progress in planning the lesson can be accessed via this google Blooms Taxonomy and Multiple Intelligences and also this pedagogy document.

Mandy - what a great visual for Math. I bet the kids loved it!

ReplyDeleteSorry about that. I just made those documents public. Let me know if there are any other problems.
DeleteGreat project, Mandy. The use of multiple problems or allowing the students to create their own problems gave other students a chance to mentally process with the author of the comment. (I know, because my 3rd grade son was following along while I was looking at your VoiceThread.)
ReplyDeleteIn response to one of your questions: No, I would not have the students necessarily rehearse their answers in this case. A couple of your responses demonstrated just that in that students started to solve their own problem, then crossed out the answer and continued to write in the right answer. Again- good for the discernment of those following along. Also very real for the students observing the VoiceThread. This is a great VoiceThread for those wanting or needing to review the skills. As well, it is good for parents and guardians to review with students so they can help reinforce skill building in homework exercises. Therefore, it is a very useful application.
