TIE Blog 2

This class has definitely been a learning experience to say the least. My attitude wasn't always the most positive towards voice thread and ETEC but I pushed through that and am very glad I did.

Before this class I had general knowledge of google docs but I have definitely learned a lot more about it and how effective it can be.
I also enjoyed this blog! I love reading blogs and blog stalking people but I always wanted to know the "behind the scenes" part of the blog. How to post a video or picture etc.. Thanks to this class I have the general knowledge and feel comfortable with using blogger.

Here is my final voice thread I did with my second graders.

I was a little apprehensive about implementing voice thread into my lesson but was pleasantly surprised.

The kids really liked how interactive it was and were eager to join in.

Through this whole process I think the biggest thing I learned is to be open minded and patient with technology. It really is an effective teaching tool you just have to take the time to understand it and also be willing to implement in the classroom.

What worked well for me?
The students doodling was really fun for them. They really enjoyed all of the interaction and something new and fun!!

If I could do it over again I would have taken more picture. ha. I also think I may have made the actual thread shorter just because after a while the students got a little bored.

Here is a picture of a few of the students adding their comments to the voice thread..

Some questions for my peers:
1. Did ya'll find it easier to have the students work out problems or know the question before recording? I know since I did a math lesson it was easier for me to do it this way. But is that truly using this technology effectively?
2. Do you think that voicethread would be a feasible tool to use in a full classroom? What about an inclusion classroom?
3. Do you think that voice thread is only effective in a classroom that has ample technology (ie: smartboard, elmo, current computers) I know in my classroom there is an elmo and a projector screen, this made it easier to include everyone in the lesson.

TIE BLOG 1

I am currently in the process of working on my voice thread. I am going to be doing it on subtraction and grouping with my second grade class.
The students have been exposed to subtraction so it will be an extension/enrichment lesson.
We will learn a saying to help us when we see double digit subtraction problems. I plan on introducing the saying in the first slide and explaining it to the students. I will then have a few examples with visual manipulatives. The students will be able to ask questions on the voice thread and I will answer them. If the students are understanding this then we will move to independent work. I will have subtraction questions and have the students answer them. Making sure that they are using the helpful jingle.

My progress in planning the lesson can be accessed via this google Blooms Taxonomy and Multiple Intelligences and also this pedagogy document.

I will continue to update my blog with further progress on the lesson.

***UPDATE****

This is the story board for my VoiceThread lesson that I will be doing for Math. This is just a general idea of how I will layout my voicethread.

Voice Threads and google docs

This past PDS session was very informative both with the how-to's on voice threads and using google docs. I have had an account with google docs for a while but really never understood how to use it. The in class session was really helpful and I learned how to create new documents. I will definitely be using google docs both now and in the future.
it was also really cool learning about voice threads. It was a little intimidating at first but once we got to explore the website it started to become a lot easier. I feel a lot more confident about how to use this as a teaching tool in my classroom.

**My group entitled our voice thread "Keep calm and carry on", we found different images of what helps us keep calm during this stressful semester.

TIE Thoughts

I had never heard of Voice Thread before this class and I am so glad I am getting the exposure. It seems to have endless possibilities and can be an incredible tool in the classroom. One of the threads I found was the reading of 'The Three Little Pigs', this is a story that can get a little over told. Who hasn't heard the tale? Implementing the famous folk tale into a voice thread is genius, this allows students to show there reading proficiency and also be creative with the story. I am a reading specialist major so I am really drawn to the reading threads. Another voice thread I enjoyed was one done by the whole class. They wrote a mini book and took turns reading it in the thread. They also illustrated the book themselves and as the book was read the different illustrations were displayed. This is a fantastic way to help students get excited about reading and writing and allows them to take ownership.
Looking forward to discovering the potential voice threads hold!

*** Here you can read the TIE letter I sent to my CT. I was somewhat confused on the whole thing do it was a little hard to understand but I did my best to explain to her.
